for LibraryThing to find out whether youll like this book.Member reviews Showing 1-5 of 9 An intriguing assignment Cordelia Gray thought and not a particularly arduous one. It soon becomes apparent however that Clarissa Lyles enemy is on the island with her and Cordelia finds herself trapped in an atmosphere of fear and violence a violence that is to culminate in brutal murder. The thing that struck me as I listened to THE SKULL BENEATH THE SKIN was the intricate detail both in the description of the characters and the setting that creates vivid mind pictures. The setting of a murder mystery that takes place on an island with a very limited cast of characters is one that has fascinated most of our great crime fiction authors.

The great detective has inspired a number of sequels and companion novels by other authors. This selection of works includes books that feature Holmes himself and others that feature major and minor characters from the Holmes stories e.g. The narrator is Edward Jones 16 assistant to Holmes after Doctor Watson retires. Emmeline Quallsford mentions pitapayas when she asks Holmes to investigate her brother Edmunds death at their seaside estate.

Welcome, Lilesh - thanks for your kind words. No, I haven't read "The Hollow" yet, but I hope to read everything this great lady has written.

I'll continue reviewing her books too, of course - they are special!

Hi,
I am from India & a Flash Developer myself.
Found your blog quite interesting ....specially Agatha Christie Book reviews.

Have you read "The Hollow" from Agatha Christie?
I have it with me and haven't started it yet. Though being a Poirot Mystery I am quite excited about it.
Will be waiting for more reviews of Agatha Christie marvels.

Thanks Irina - I'm one of those who knows this best through "My Fair Lady".

Believe me, a good education doesn't guarantee good manners, though it does allow some people to bully with perfect grammar.... Some people wear their good education with grace, others - like Higgins - simply use it as a tool to assume superiority over others.

Also you mention returning to books that you've known from a different part of your life. Despite my advancing years (ahem) I'm currently enjoying a re-read of the two Alice books but in their annotated form. And while I am still enjoying it, it's a different sense of enjoyment - probably a more knowing one (even without the notes); I guess that's the point, isn't it, that re-reading a book later in life we have so many more experiences that spark links - and also, sadly, our own imposed "now I'm a grown-up" limits to our former imagination.

Even read the story by Ray Bradbury, from which it originated. But I thought about it a lot as a teen, long before Bradbury's story fell into my hands.
