I'm sure you'd enjoy Lucky Starr series, Ann - they all are as much detective stories as science fiction, and they are beautifully written.

I absolutely love Asimov.

I haven't read these books either, Irina - but Asimov was a very prolific writer.

Like Laury I really enjoyed his robot books - but also he wrote the very famous Foundation series - which I loved.

He also was responsible for getting me interested in science - he wrote a series of books about the sciences and in such a way that it became interesting and alive to a non scientist. Quite often he wrote about sceintific discoveries as they were made by the people involved, and I think that made all the difference to me, introducing the human element.

Welcome, Laury - and thanks for your comment and for the congratulations.

Yes, you are right - how funny is that in the light of our today's achievements?

Firstly - congrats on the new site!

I'm not familiar with 'Lucky Starr' but have read "I, Robot" and recommend that.

As for the comment on computers, it puts me in mind of a quote I saw a few days ago, a quote which shows that we don't always predict the future with precision:

"Where a calculator on the ENIAC is equipped with 18,000 vacuum tubes and weighs 30 tons, computers in the future may have only 1,000 vacuum tubes and perhaps weigh 1.5 tons." - Popular Mechanics, March 1949
